North Lanarkshire Council propose to release our field to allow 93 houses to be built in the heart of our scenic 400 year old village. We need your help to stop Auchinloch from loosing its character.

Development may not go ahead

North Lanarkshire Council may scrap all contentious plans from the Northern Corridor Local Plan.
Sources reveal that over 350 representation forms were completed and submitted to the planning department of North Lanarkshire Council, with only one form stating a 'for' argument.

A big thank you to everyone for their support.
If you signed a petition, filled out a representation form, turned up to the meetings, or were a supporting councillor - thanks! You have helped us make progress in our challenge to beat the developers, when many disregarded this as a 'done deal.'

We must not become complacent - they will not give up so we must always be alert and prepared to defend Auchinloch and its wonderful features.

More details will be posted as we receive them. Please continue to visit this site and support our continuing battle to preserve our scenery and wildlife.

A special Youtube video of Auchinloch

Why do we want to stop the proposal from going ahead?

  • Not only will we loose our beautiful scenery and greenbelt, but Auchinloch is an "Area of Special Character" with an Article 4 direction (removing permitted development rights). The 2004 report on the last local plan said "Proposals within this area have to maintain or enhance the area's character." By going against this, there will be no special character
  • Auchinloch is a historic village (pre-1600) and shouldn't be lost amongst new housing.
  • Apart from the highland cows, birds of prey and deer disappearing, there are other biodiversity issues: negative impact on water voles, orchids, toads, frogs, bats.
  • Transport issues - Additional strain on the Lenzie Glasgow train link (already at capacity) and increase in volume of traffic and speeding cars within village
  • At least 800 houses have already been granted planning permission in Lenzie and at Robroyston which will add significantly to the current congestion on the roads / M80 during rush hour
  • Charlie Gray revealed that the special bond between Auchinloch Primary and Lenzie Academy would be reviewed and school kids would have to go to Chryston.
